From Karin - re PigHoppers,
a sanctuary for rabbits, pigs and others
PO Box 7, Whittaker, MI 48190

Hey everyone,
Congratulations go to Lake, Mark, and Nathaniel! On Wednesday, October 23, 2002, around 1:30 pm, Lake delivered Samuel Robert by c-section. He weighs around 4 lbs 13 oz and is 18 inches long. And according to Nathaniel, is "very cute." He came out of ICU yesterday around 3 pm and hopefully will be able to go home with Lake on Saturday.

As for how this is going to effect PigHoppers, WE NEED HELP! Sammy wasn't due until the end of November, so we don't have all of the feedings and other work covered as of yet and since Lake had a c-section, she's going to be completely unable to help for a few weeks, after which she's going to have a newborn to care for. Currently Cathy and I are doing all the uncovered feedings, plus the work we already are committed to, and while we love PigHoppers to death, neither one of us are going to be able to maintain this schedule for too long.

If we are going to be able to keep PigHoppers running and continue to rescue abandoned pigs and rabbits, we need help. So if anyone has even a few extra hours, please consider either taking a feeding, doing some extra work out at the farm or even putting up volunteer posters. And if anyone has any ideas of groups or organizations that we could utilize to get more volunteers, please let either Cathy or myself know. We wouldn't be begging for help if we didn't need it.

As for the workday, it's definitely still going to happen, just no potluck. Since we only have two more workdays this year, this one being the only one before it gets really cold and starts to snow, we have a lot of work to do to winterize the sanctuary so the animals don't get too cold. Some examples of work that we need to get done is putting plastic over the windows in the condo (Scruffy and Jellybean are now happily living out there), put fresh straw in the potbelly barn, fix the hole in bunny barn roof (does anyone know how to fix roofs?), and rig up some warming stations for the outdoor cats. So if anyone has time, we could really use your help on Saturday.

Feedings that are currently left uncovered: Monday night, Friday night, Saturday morning, and Saturday night. If anyone can do one of those feedings, please let us know. And if you can do a feeding on another day, let us know too, perhaps we can switch the schedule a bit.

And lastly, to those who are currently scheduled for feedings, please contact either Cathy (home: 734.971.7475 or work: 734.763.5276) or myself (cell: 734.945.5343 or home: 734.975.1748) if you're unable to cover your feeding and unable to find someone else to cover it, NOT Lake. Also, please try to actually speak to one of us instead of leave a message to be sure that we know you're not feeding. Attached you'll find the volunteer phone list, please let me know if you can't access it.

Again, congratulations Lake! And we look forward to seeing you guys on Saturday!
