Victory for Animals.... this Petland has closed! Petland In Toledo Those cute and cuddly puppies sold in Petland stores have come from a life of despair and sadness. Their parents are still back in the puppy mills - in small wire cages living out their lives producing more puppies for greed. Petland stores buy these puppies from brokers who buy them from mills throughout the Midwest. Most puppy mills are located in Pennsylvania, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and here in Ohio. Petland stores ignore this misery to maximize their profits. These commercial breeders are usually licensed by the United States Department of Agriculture, the agency enforcing the Animal Welfare Act (AWA), which spells out a minimum standard of care. These licensed breeders are regularly fined for violations of the AWA, even though the USDA standard is far below what most people would consider humane. Breeding dogs live their lives in small wire cages or in kennel runs without proper socialization, nutrition, or health care. Poor genetic traits are frequently passed on to puppies sold in Petland stores, where unsuspecting consumers pick up the tab, sometimes in the thousands of dollars for veterinary expenses! We want to encourage people to remember the millions of homeless dogs in shelters when thinking about making that pet store purchase. Currently there are over two million homeless dogs in the United States; more than 60% of these dogs will die because people choose to buy from pet stores instead of adopting. If you would like to protest Petland and help close the store, please print, sign, and send this letter to the Petland corporate offices to let them know you do not want a
Petland store to remain in Toledo, Ohio. DATE (current date) Petland Corporate Offices
Dear Sirs, It has come to my attention that Petland has opened a store in the Toledo, Ohio area. As a resident of Toledo (in the Toledo area), I am compelled to tell you that I do not want this store here. I will not patronize this store. Citizens of Toledo, including myself, will not support a company that allows the cruel abuse of animals by puppy mills. USDA licenses and AKC registrations mean nothing when inspections are not followed through, and your company continually allows inhumane breeding practices. Sincerely, (Your name printed
